Probe continues into Salem railway death

SALEM, Ore. – Police are continuing their investigation into the Saturday death of a railway worker for Portland & Western Railroad at 200 Hawthorne Ave. SE in Salem.

Portland & Western is locally owned, and transports paper, steel, grain, forest products, chemicals, aggregates, fertilizers and consumer goods throughout the Northwest.

On Saturday morning one of its workers, a 44-year-old man, was found dead from gunshots near railroad tracks in Eugene. Eugene Police have identified the man as Ronald Leo Langlois of Springfield, Ore.

A railroad worker reported finding his co-worker dead outside of the train he had been working on. Police spent about seven hours on-scene, scouring the areas for clues and carrying away evidence, according to reports from KATU sister station KVAL in Eugene.

Eugene Police Department spokeswoman Melinda Kletzok would not tell the Associated Press how many gunshot wounds the man had. She did say, however, that police are investigating the death as a homicide.
